President and Chief Executive Officer (Ex-Officio)
Richard G. Smith, Ph.D., retired from Lofstrand Labs Limited in November of 2010 as President and Chief Executive
Officer of Lofstrand Labs Limited, a company he founded
in 1983. He holds a doctorate in Biophysics from
Brandeis University where he studied under the physical chemist,
Dr. Henry Linschitz. Dr. Smith received his B.S. degree in Chemistry with minors in
Mathematics, Physics, Philosophy and Theology from St. Peter's College.
From 1973 through 1976, Dr. Smith studied as a post doctoral
fellow at the National Cancer Institute in the Laboratory of Tumor
Cell Biology (LTCB) under Dr. David Gillespie. During the years
1976 through 1981 he served as Senior Staff Fellow at the LTCB.

Laboratory Director Nancy Y.M. Li, Ph.D. joined Lofstrand Labs in 1984 as a
senior staff scientist. In 1986 Dr. Li was promoted to
Laboratory Director and Head of the Plasmid DNA production
department. She obtained her M.S. from Brown University and
her Ph.D. degree in physiological chemistry at Texas A&M
University.

President and Chief Operations Officer
Yuan-Tsang Ting, Ph.D. recently (01/2012) assumed the position of President and COO of Lofstrand Labs Limited following the retirement of the president, Richard G. Smith. Dr. Ting joined Lofstrand Labs in 2000 as Department Head of DNA Sequencing and Molecular Cloning and promoted to Chief Operations Officer in 2010. Dr. Ting received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas in molecular and cell biology. Prior to joining Lofstrand Labs, Dr. Ting served as a post doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Laboratory Manager and Department Head, Molecular Probes
Robert Alexander joined Lofstrand Labs in 1983 and is the most senior staff member with over twenty years with the company. Prior to joining Lofstrand, Bob worked with Dr. Smith as a senior research assistant performing molecular studies on the etiology of human cancer. Bob received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland, and serves as Laboratory Manager, Radiation Safety Officer and Head of the Molecular Probes Department.
Mr. Alexander worked together with other staff members at Lofstrand Labs in developing the In Situ Hybridization capability now offered by the company. Bob is also co-inventor of the Lofstrand Bactolift.

Project Manager, DNA Sequencing and Molecular Cloning
Jeremy Dathe joined Lofstrand Labs Limited as a lab aide in 1992 after receiving his B.S. in Biotechnology from the University of Delaware. With over twenty years of experience in such areas as DNA sequencing, PCR and gene cloning, he is now Project Manager in the DNA Sequencing and Molecular Cloning Department.

Thomas C. Harbage joined Lofstrand Labs in 1988 after receiving his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland. Tom worked in the department of Plant Molecular Genetics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1985 until 1988, before joining Lofstrand.

Terms
Unless other arrangements are made, payment terms are net 30 days. A late charge of 1% per month will be added to the unpaid balance on all overdue accounts.
Shipping
Lofstrand Labs will pick up and deliver samples within a 20 mile driving radius of our facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland. For customers outside this area materials should be sent to the address shown above. Freight charges for return shipments outside our delivery range will be prepaid by Lofstrand labs and added to the invoice.
Warranty
Lofstrand Labs warrants the materials sold by it to be of merchantable quality at the time of shipment. There is no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the fitness of these materials for any particular purpose. The customer must notify Lofstrand Labs in writing of any breach of the warranty. Because of the inherent susceptibility to deterioration of most biochemicals, notification must be made within 30 days of receipt. All claims shall be deemed waived in the event the customer fails to notify the company within the warranty period. The maximum liability for breach of warranty shall be the invoice price for said materials and this liability shall be exclusive. Lofstrand Labs Limited shall not be liable for any consequential, compensatory, incidental, or specific damages.

Commercial organizations, seeking to OUTSOURCE early stage development or product production, are an important component of our business efforts. Our laboratories are positioned to perform such work under GLP guidelines where required.
RAPID TURN AROUND TIME is a very important component of our service philosophy. Typically, we ship labeled probes in less than 24 hours, synthetic oligonucleotides in less than five days and plasmid DNA in approximately one week.
Lofstrand labs originally occupied a small laboratory in Rockville, Maryland, U.S.A.(on Lofstrand Lane). As the business grew, the company moved to its present location in Gaithersburg, Maryland, increasing in size to its present staffing of approximately 20 scientists and support personnel.
